Pat Sajak: fun-loving game show host and, apparently, prolific tweeter of anti-liberal jokes. This came to much of the world's attention on Monday night, when the Wheel of Fortune host tweeted: "I now believe global warming alarmists are unpatriotic racists knowingly misleading for their own ends. Good night." But it's nothing new, as the Wire determined when it took a closer look at Sajak's Twitter feed: The thing is full of similarly pro-conservative sentiments, including:
- "Very hot weather: 'We're all going to die!' Very cold weather: 'There's a difference between climate & weather, moron!'"
- "Skeet shooting in Hillsdale, MI. (Don't worry...they were free range skeet.)"
- "Met a nice woman who said she'd check my tax return for free. Says she's an expert. Name is Lerner, I think."
"Republicans and Congress in general seem spared from Sajak's Twitter ire," writes Adam Chandler. "Maybe he assumes this is his audience. But also, who cares?" Well, quite a few people; Sajak's outburst sparked a number of outraged responses. On Salon, Daniel D'Addario points out that Sajak's political leanings are no secret; between 2007 and 2013, he wrote articles for Human Events with titles like, "Opposed to ObamaCare? Then You Must Be a Racist." As for why Sajak thinks climate change believers are racists, he didn't have enough Twitter characters to clarify, but on Mother Jones, Chris Mooney explains that there's a conservative argument that eco-activism imposes the views of wealthy people on poor "Africans, Asians, and Latin Americans."
