A political blogger has been arrested for allegedly sneaking into a nursing home and photographing a "vulnerable resident," the Washington Post reports. The victim: the bedridden wife of Sen. Thad Cochran, says a family lawyer. Blogger Clayton Kelly, 28, is said to have posted his photo in a video that attacked Cochran and supported his Republican primary opponent, state Sen. Chris McDaniel, the Clarion-Ledger reports. Now, Cochran's campaign is wondering how a McDaniel rep apparently knew about the arrest before it hit the media.
McDaniel's campaign manager, state sen. Melanie Sojourner, called the Cochran campaign at 7:45 this morning to express sympathy about the alleged violation. But it wasn't until 9:24 am that the Clarion-Ledger reported that the arrest was linked to the Cochran family, the paper notes. "I think it would be interesting to know how she would hear about it before 7:45 am," says a Cochran rep. A McDaniel spokesman earlier said the campaign had played no part in Kelly's video: "I've never even heard his name." Kelly does, however, appear to have interviewed McDaniel in the past, the Clarion-Ledger notes. (More Thad Cochran stories.)
