After Karl Rove hinted Hillary Clinton had brain damage—then denied doing so—a top neurologist in the capital has weighed in to say many people who suffer blood clots like the one Clinton had after a fall in 2012 have gone on to have a "fabulous recovery." The clot was technically in a vein, not the brain itself, and in all her public appearances since, "I don’t see a hint that there’s anything of a brain injury," the neurologist, who wasn't involved in Clinton's treatment, tells Politico.
As for Clinton's suitability for the presidency after the injury, Ronald Reagan had surgery for a blood clot on his brain "and he served several more years as president," the neurologist says. Clinton's press secretary called Rove's remarks a "desperate attack" and said what he's doing "is its own form of sickness." Even some Republicans, including Newt Gingrich, strongly criticized Rove, reports the Washington Post. "It's a terrible thing for Karl to do," said Gingrich. "It's petty. It's personal. It's negative. It eats up time and space with things that make no difference ... We are never going to beat her with this kind of stuff." (More Hillary Clinton stories.)
