Md. Candidate: Iraq Vet Can't Handle 'Real Job' as Governor

Maryland's attorney general is playing defense after implying his opponent in the governor's race primary, Iraq War veteran and the current lieutenant governor, Anthony Brown, can't face a "real job." Discussing the Maryland health website's troubles, Doug Gansler said he's "running against somebody who has never managed anybody, never run anything. His ads are about how he’s a lawyer in Iraq, and that’s all fine and good, but this is a real job." A veterans' group didn't take kindly to the comment.

"It’s a horrible insult to all those men and women who put their lives on the line, and especially those who died, in service to this country," the chairman of VoteVets.org tells the Baltimore Sun. Brown's campaign also replied: "There are hundreds of thousands of men and women serving in the armed forces … performing different duties, and I can assure Doug Gansler that each of them has a real job." Gansler, for his part, offered a clarification to Fox News: "I have the utmost respect for his military service and for veterans," he said. "The point I was trying to make is that Anthony Brown's only attempt to lead as Lieutenant Governor was the unmitigated debacle of the health exchange website." (More Maryland stories.)
