The Party-Monster-turned-killer is getting out of prison after 17 years, reports the Hollywood Reporter. That would be Michael Alig, now 47, who earned notoriety in the late 1980s and early '90s as a leader of the Club Kids, famous for their sex- and drug-filled parties around Manhattan. Alig's story took a dark turn in 1996, when he was convicted in the murder and dismemberment of a drug dealer after an argument. Macaulay Culkin played Alig in the 2003 biopic Party Monster.

Alig is due for release on May 5, and "his transition to the real world will be eased by a support group who, for the most part, have stuck by him for more than a decade and a half," writes friend Steve Lewis at BlackBook. "Michael has never used a computer or cellphone but he has remained keenly aware of the world we live in." His days as the "Party Monster" are long gone, "but he will paint and write, and as always, try to impact the way we think." (More Michael Alig stories.)
