A pretty inauspicious start to the season for the Atlanta Braves: At their home opener Tuesday night, a fireworks blunder ended up setting the American flag on fire in front of 50,000 fans, WXIA reports. For the first—and last—time, the team tried setting off fireworks from the Braves Vision screen at Turner Field and one headed straight for the flag. The flag was made from flame-retardant material so the fire was out within seconds, but there were a few holes burned in the flag and it was replaced the next day, a Braves spokeswoman tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Braves went on to lose to the Mets 4-0. (More Atlanta Braves stories.)
