As 18-year-old Kylee Caruso drove to work for an early shift on Sunday morning on an icy road in Maine, she lost control of her car, crossed the center line—and realized at the last second that she was heading for a collision with her own brother, 20-year-old Logan Caruso, who was driving home from an overnight shift. "I knew once I came around the corner that it was my brother and I [was] going to hit him," she tells WCSH. "There was nothing I could do." Both siblings survived the crash with just minor injuries after Logan drove into a snowbank to avoid Kylee's car, which clipped the back of his truck nonetheless.
"You could see his eyes just widen" when he realized who the other driver was, Kylee says, "and he just ran over to my car." Adds Logan, "I almost fell to the ground when I got out of my truck. I kept hollering to her and hollering to her. ... So many emotions were going through my head at that time. Was she OK?" Kylee couldn't get her car door open, but Logan was able to. "I grabbed her and put her in my truck," he says, and then the two called police—and their parents. "We could have lost both our kids," says dad Robert Caruso. There are no hard feelings between the siblings: The accident "was definitely my fault," Kylee tells Bangor Daily News. (More uplifting news stories.)
