A life-saving decision by a group of strangers and a surprise reunion of mother and child make the list:

• Strangers' Intervention at Gym Saves Woman's Life: Stories about people staging a successful intervention to save someone in trouble aren't so unusual. But what about when those people are total strangers? The Tennessean has such a tale from the Green Hills YMCA, where nine regulars at the gym got worried about an emaciated young woman who was working out constantly. She rebuffed them at first, but when she finally relented, doctors say it was in the nick of time.

• 'Burger King Baby' Finds Mom Who Abandoned Her: Katheryn Deprill was abandoned as a newborn in a Burger King in 1986, and while she was adopted into a loving family, she always wondered about her birth mother. She began a Facebook campaign to find her, unaware her mother had launched a search of her own. They've since reunited, and after learning her mom's story, Katheryn forgives her "110%."
• Man Delivers Dead Porcupine's Baby—by Chance: This is one of the strangest animal rescue stories in a while. A motorist in Maine inadvertently delivered a baby porcupine by what amounted to emergency C-section after its mother was killed by car. And now he's nursing it to health.

• Girl Scout Breaks Mammoth Cookie Sale Record: An Oklahoma City girl who says she asks everyone she meets to buy Girl Scout cookies has broken the organization's decades-old sales record by a margin about the size of a Thin Mint. Katie Francis sold 18,107 boxes in the seven-week sales period.
