Report Clears FBI Agent in Death of Tsarnaev Friend

An FBI agent won't face charges in a high-profile shooting related to the Boston Marathon bombing. A Florida prosecutor has decided that the unidentified agent acted in self-defense when he fatally shot an acquaintance of Tamerlan Tsarnaev during questioning in Florida last year, report the Washington Post and Boston Globe. Both cite anonymous sources because the official report on the death of Chechen native Ibragim Todashev has not yet been released.

The report concludes that the FBI agent was within his rights to shoot because Ibragim attacked him with a metal pole during questioning. The agent needed stitches to close a wound on the back of his head. The incident drew national headlines not only because of the connection to the marathon bomber but because, during questioning, Ibragim revealed that he and the elder Tsarnaev had participated in a triple homicide.
