World / Mumbai 4 Convicted in Gang-Rape That Shook Mumbai 3 convicted of 2nd rape at same location By Kate Seamons, Newser Staff Posted Mar 20, 2014 6:31 AM CDT Updated Mar 20, 2014 7:39 AM CDT Copied One of four men convicted of gang raping a photojournalist in India's financial capital of Mumbai last year exits a police van as he is brought to prison, in Mumbai, India, Thursday, March 20, 2013. (AP Photo/Rajanish Kakade) Two months after the August gang-rape of a photojournalist in Mumbai, the New York Times delved into the case, finding that the act had simply grown normal for the five men accused. Something else that will soon grow normal for four of them: prison. A court today found them guilty of a list of charges including gang rape, unnatural sex, and compelling the victim to imitate pornographic video clips. They'll be sentenced tomorrow and face life in prison, with the fifth man being tried in juvenile court, reports the BBC. The photojournalist was on assignment with a male co-worker at an abandoned textile mill when she was assaulted and her colleague beaten. The Times cites police reports that suggest the convicted used the phrase "the prey has arrived" to communicate the woman's presence at the mill to each other. Three of the men were convicted of raping a call-center operator in the same location; she recognized the accused men as her own attackers following the photojournalist's rape and went to police. The AP notes that the rapes happened roughly a month apart. (More Mumbai stories.) Report an error
