After days of graphic testimony that left Oscar Pistorius vomiting, the athlete appeared "calm and composed" for day 10 in court today, the Telegraph reports. The court was shown photos taken of Pistorius following the shooting in which he appeared in shorts and wearing his prosthetic legs, covered in blood from the waist down. (You can see them here.) Photos of a blood-splattered crime scene were also shown, but it was a watch case that seemed to be the focus of the day. At least one, and possibly two, expensive watches were stolen from it during the initial investigation, former police chief G.S. van Rensburg testified, which the defense emphasized showed shoddy police work, the Telegraph notes.
Though officers were searched at the scene, the watches didn't turn up. Other apparent missteps: Van Rensburg also described a ballistics expert picking up Pistorius' gun, cocking it, and removing the magazine without putting on gloves, the AP reports. Further, Pistorius' bathroom door, key to the case, was held in van Rensburg's office as opposed to an evidence hold, which, the defense argued, means it's contaminated, per CNN—though the former chief noted that he felt the office, which only he had access to, was the safest place for it. A last standout bit from his testimony: Though Pistorius' defense rests on his belief that an intruder was in the bathroom, van Rensburg told the court the bathroom window was too high for "someone to have gained access."
