It's the creature comforts that are apparently lacking in Sochi, from functioning toilets to ... yogurt. The latest brouhaha to hit the region is a very dairy one. Issue No. 1: Sen. Chuck Schumer is very peeved that US athletes have been unable to get their hands on Chobani yogurt, which has apparently gotten tangled in a customs mess and is stuck at Newark. The Democrat went so far as to pen a letter to the International Olympic Committee and the Russian ambassador regarding the "protein-packed, New York-made food," reports NBC News. He asserts that the "US government has confirmed that sanitary standards have been met to ensure that this yogurt will be safe for consumption by American Citizens attending and participating in the 2014 Winter Olympics."
What about the safety of non-Americans? It's a non-issue, reports the AP, which has Schumer saying the yogurt will only be consumed by US citizens in Sochi. But, in Issue No. 2, Americans aren't the only one searching for the food item at the breakfast bar. The AP reports that Alpine skiers are equally annoyed to find an absence of yogurt in the athletes' village. "There is no yogurt," says Norwegian gold medalist Aksel Lund Svindal.
