Killer Storm Heads Northeast

The massive snowstorm blowing across the US has blanketed much of the Midwest and is now taking aim at the Northeast, the AP reports. The storm has killed at least six, tangled traffic from Texas to the Great Lakes, and snarled flights at the crucial Chicago hub. "By no means should anyone take these conditions lightly," a city official told the Chicago Tribune.

Chicago got about 5 inches, and Michigan, which closed hundreds of schools in anticipation of a foot of snow, recorded a similar total. But roads were very treacherous, with traffic at a virtual standstill and numerous accidents. “If you don’t have to be out here, don’t,” one Chicago bicycle messenger advised.
