A man who has been the Kansas City Chiefs' mascot for more than two decades was seriously injured this weekend while rehearsing a zip line routine at Arrowhead Stadium. His attorney today blamed human error and said the company responsible for securing his riggings appeared to be at fault. It's not clear exactly what happened, but a friend of 46-year-old Dan Meers says he suffered a serious back injury. Meers, who has played the KC Wolf since the mascot's inception in 1989, was in stable condition after surgery.

Meers has a wife and three children and is part of a close-knit church community that is now helping the family, said the attorney. "They recognize the need to preserve evidence so that it can be investigated and prevent this thing from happening again," he added. "Therefore it was necessary to hire counsel to take over that role while they attend to Dan." A team spokesman acknowledged Meers' injury but declined to give details about the accident.
