A group of young girls in the audience at last night's Glamour Women of the Year awards ceremony went absolutely nuts—not for an actress or singer, but for a Pakistani education activist. "We love you, Malala!" they shouted as Malala Yousafzai stepped onstage at Carnegie Hall to be honored. Malala, by far the crowd favorite, gave a passionate speech, the AP reports. "I believe the gun has no power at all," she said. "A gun can only kill. But a pen can give life."
Other honorees included Barbra Streisand, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award; Gabrielle Giffords and Mark Kelly, who were named Couple of the Year; a hero teacher from Sandy Hook Elementary School; Melinda Gates; and Lady Gaga. Gaga, who graces the cover of this month's Glamour, said she wished she could "forfeit" the cover and give it to Malala instead. At the after-party, the two posed for pictures together, and Gaga urged Malala, "Never be afraid to speak your mind. I can't wait until my fans hear your story." (More Malala Yousafzai stories.)
