Dear high school students: If your teacher rents a penthouse suite for you, and buys you a gift basket that happens to include booze and condoms, posting about it on social media is a very bad way to thank her. The Miami-Dade school board yesterday voted to fire a dance teacher who allegedly did all of that, ignoring the recommendation of an administrative law judge who suggested she be reinstated, the Miami Herald reports.
Isabel Diaz-Almaraz has been suspended since last year, after she rented a penthouse for 15 students the weekend after prom. She also helped a student make a "gift display with rose petals and mints for his girlfriend," the judge said. Diaz-Almaraz denies providing condoms or alcohol, but both were visible in an image of a gift basket one student posted to Instagram with the caption, "Thank you, Mrs. D!!!" Diaz-Almaraz says the students paid for the room; she just let them do it through her PayPal account. (More Isabel Diaz-Almaraz stories.)
