In 1st Year of Eligibility, Nirvana Nabs Rock Hall Nod

Nirvana is among the 16 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced today, and is the only act this year to be nominated in its first year of eligibility, Rolling Stone reports. In order to be eligible, musicians or bands need to have released their first record 25 years prior; Nirvana released a single, "Love Buzz," in 1988, the New York Times reports. Fans can vote here, though their votes won't count nearly as much as those of the Rock Hall voting body. The winners will be inducted in April.

Other first-time nominees: Yes, the Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, Hall & Oates, the Zombies, and guitarist Link Wray. The rest of the nominees have all been nominated in the past: Kiss, Chic, Deep Purple, NWA, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, the Meters, LL Cool J, and Cat Stevens (though Rolling Stone says Stevens is being nominated for the first time). And then there's Peter Gabriel, who was nominated as a solo artist for the first time, but is already in the Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis. (More Nirvana stories.)
