Politics / ObamaCare ObamaCare Site Going Down for Repairs Officials promise extra capacity and better call centers By Neal Colgrass, Newser Staff Posted Oct 4, 2013 5:38 PM CDT Copied Gina Macaluso, an employee of Covered California, the state's new health care exchange, provides health insurance at the newly opened call center in Rancho Cordova, Calif., Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. (AP Photo/Rich Pedroncelli) The bedeviled Obamacare website is going down for repairs this weekend and should be working better by Monday, US health officials said today. The healthcare.gov site, which barely worked during its inaugural week, will still provide general information but not allow enrollment during off-peak weekend hours. "Americans have seen once again that Obamacare is not ready for prime time," said Rep. Eric Cantor, the GOP's No. 2 in the House. "A dysfunctional website is the least of that law's problems." But the Obama administration put a good face on it, releasing a statement about the repairs with the headline, "Health Insurance Marketplace Open for Business — Week One Success." And the AP notes that other online service providers, like banks and credit card companies, regularly take their websites offline for repairs. One intriguing theory: Hackers purposely overwhelmed the system with virus-infected computers. (More ObamaCare stories.) Report an error
