For just $500,000, you can buy the home in Aberdeen, Wash., where Kurt Cobain spent his formative years—complete with the markings and holes he made on the walls of his childhood bedroom, and even the mattress he slept on. Cobain's mother, Wendy O'Connor, is selling the 1.5-story 1923 bungalow; it's apparently not in great shape (the AP describes its "dingy carpeting" and "water-stained wooden shingles") and was last assessed at less than $67,000. But consider this: Another couple bought a nearby Washington home for $42,500 in 2002, learned Cobain lived there from the ages of 11 to 15, and ended up selling it for $210,000.

The Nirvana frontman lived in the Aberdeen home from ages 2 to 9, when his parents separated; he moved back in as a teen to live with his mom. A Cobain biographer notes the house is "a place where [Cobain] had very fond memories," but also sad ones: After his parents' divorce, he wrote, "I hate Mom, I hate Dad" on his bedroom wall. The mattress he slept on in that bedroom is included with the house, stored in an upstairs crawl space. Also included: the dining room table and hutch from when he lived there. "Our family has moved on from Washington, and [we] feel it's time to let go of the home," says Cobain's sister, Kim, in a statement. The family would be interested in a partnership to turn the home into a Cobain museum. (More Kurt Cobain stories.)
