US / firecrackers Guy Throws Lit Fireworks Over White House Fence Secret Service doesn't dawdle in taking him down By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff Posted Sep 17, 2013 7:18 AM CDT Copied A man is taken into custody by uniformed Secret Service Police on Pennsylvania Avenue outside the White House on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, in Washington. (AP Photo/ Evan Vucci) An unidentified man chose yesterday—the day of the Washington Navy Yard mass shooting—to throw lit fireworks over the White House fence. Not surprisingly, he was immediately tackled by Secret Service agents. An eyewitness tells the Daily Beast the firecrackers were a bit bigger than cherry bombs, and produced "a lot of smoke" but no actual fire. He and his friend saw the guy throw the first one over the fence last night; as three or four agents rushed him, he threw the second and was promptly taken down. The AP reports the man—who was not wearing shoes—was arrested. Fox News incorrectly reported shots had been fired, the Washington Post notes. (More firecrackers stories.) Report an error
