Yahoo Unveils 1st New Logo in 18 Years

For the first time in 18 years, as Marissa Mayer notes, Yahoo has changed its logo. It's no massive overhaul, though: "We wanted a logo that stayed true to our roots (whimsical, purple, with an exclamation point) yet embraced the evolution of our products," writes chief marketing officer Kathy Savitt on Yahoo's blog. The exclamation point will move for three seconds when users arrive at the site, Advertising Age reports.

"It might be an exclamation riding on a Segway, or riding on a pogo stick or swinging on a Tarzan vine," Savitt says. Designers were going for a look that was "sophisticated with a wink," says a rep. For the past 30 days, the company has been teasing potential new logos, one each day, the Verge notes. The one the company settled on, however, wasn't actually part of the series, Ad Age points out.
