Sen. John McCain says he doesn't support the latest Senate resolution to authorize military force against Syria. McCain is an outspoken advocate of intervention against Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime and wants more than cruise missile strikes and other limited action. But asked if he supported the Senate resolution, he told the AP, "In its current form, I do not." That current form, drafted by Democrat Bob Menendez and Republican Bob Corker, would limit action to 90 days and rule out ground troops.
The Arizona Republican has kept himself in the center of the Syria debate. He threatened earlier this week to vote against a White House draft resolution unless President Barack Obama promised greater support to Syria's rebels, then came around and publicly endorsed Obama's move. But his credibility on the issue took a hit yesterday, when he was caught playing poker on his phone during a hearing. (More John McCain stories.)
