The arrest of an alleged silver thief that reads like a movie plot and the egregious misuse of bailout money highlight this week's craziest crimes:

  • Banker Blew $381K in Bailout Cash on Posh Condo: This will likely make your blood boil. A former bank executive has pleaded guilty to using bailout money—and lots of it—to buy a waterfront condo. And his penalty probably won't be too severe.
  • Legendary Thief Caught by Retired Archnemesis: It's a criminal tale that reads like Catch Me If You Can. At its center: an alleged thief of antique silver thought to have burgled 500 homes over 30 years. He was arrested this week in Florida, thanks to the efforts of a retired detective who never gave up.

  • Soft-Hearted Kidnappers Give Broke Hostage Money: Two convicted kidnappers in China made the mistake of abducting a girl whose family had no money. What they did next proves they might be too nice to stay in their chosen line of work.
  • Guy Tries to Shoot Pot Into Prison via Arrow: Cops say a Washington state man wrapped a bag of marijuana around an arrow, then fired that arrow into a county jail Tuesday. The excuse he gave police as to why he shot the arrow didn't quite cut it.
  • At Home Depot, You Can Do It ... in Our Sheds: No, the chain isn't changing its slogan. But a South Carolina couple faces charges after police found them in an outside display shed, without much clothing.
