The tiny town of Leith, North Dakota, with its 19 residents, may soon get a population boost—but most won't be happy with the new neighbors. Infamous white supremacist Craig Cobb—wanted for hate crimes in Canada—has bought up 13 lots and plans to turn the almost-ghost town into a white nationalists' community where racists can live, fly Nazi flags, and commandeer city elections, the Bismarck Tribune reports. "Everybody’s wound up," says the mayor, whose phone has been "ringing off the hook" with residents wanting to know what Cobb is up to. It's "a flippin' fairy tale," he says. "None of us had checked out this guy."
An extremist expert can give them a hint: "He's one of the most vicious neo-Nazi activists around," he says, adding Cobb has been trying to build an all-white town since 2001. "This is much further advanced than anything we've seen." Still, he doesn't think it'll last. "My best guess is that it will fall apart as a result of being exposed." While the sheriff says Cobb hasn't broken any laws, police are keeping an eye on the properties and are investigating two men who began work on a lot this week. One told the Tribune he has no relation to Cobb or his beliefs; he found the property on Craigslist when looking for a quiet, prairie home. (More white supremacist stories.)
