Yahoo just earned some nice bragging rights over Google: Marissa Mayer's company is the new king of web traffic, according to July stats from comScore. That's the first time Yahoo has beaten Google since May 2011 and will likely be seen as validation for Mayer's moves in her first year as CEO, reports CNNMoney. For the record, Yahoo sites logged 196.6 million unique visitors to Google's 192.3 million. And Yahoo's numbers did not include those for the recently acquired Tumblr, whose 38.3 million visitors were counted separately, notes MarketingLand.
"Now, before you unload all that Google stock, this doesn't mean the balance of power has completely shifted," writes Scott Budman at NBC's Tech Now! blog. "After all, it's how much money Google pulls in that really wows investors—that's something Yahoo has to do better no matter how many people are watching." Also of note: Facebook's unique visitors dropped from 161 million in July 2012 to 142 million last month, reports AdWeek. (Mayer, meanwhile, is taking some flak for her recent Vogue photo shoot.)
