The attempted comebacks of scandalized politicians Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer are doing the city of New York no great favors—or so say New Yorkers. A new Siena College poll found 68% of New York State voters and 62% of New York City voters are embarrassed by the "great deal of attention across the country" shown towards the two men and their campaigns, the Christian Science Monitor reports. The shame skewed even higher for women—72% said they were embarrassed versus 63% of men. (The 814 voters in the poll also had the option to label it "entertaining" or "no big deal.")
The news was even worse for Anthony Weiner, with the poll finding 80% of New Yorkers now have an unfavorable view of Mr. Danger—a record high (or low, depending on which way you look at it) for a Siena poll. Spitzer fared better on that front, with only a 59% unfavorable rating, considerably better than the 79% he had following his resignation in 2008. (More New York City stories.)
