Now that Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post, Ken Doctor at Bloomberg has some requests. For starters, "wouldn't it be great to be able to find stories on a news site?" he writes. News site search is generally unbelievably incompetent. And why isn't there a way to easily save and retrieve stories? A recommendation system? A way to stock up stories while you're on vacation? "That's the baby stuff. It's what Bezos should raise in one of the first meetings."

Amazon invented 1-click shopping. Can it make news just as frictionless? "Seriously though, there's nothing like a Netflix or iTunes experience for heavy news consumers—a place to read, buy, share, and be easily informed without heavy lifting," Doctor complains. Wouldn't it be great to get every news source under the sun in "one pleasurable place?" Bezos can improve advertising, too, bringing an Amazon-like "see-read reviews-buy" functionality to it. Hopefully the Post can build on "Amazon's slick interface—and all the smarts lurking behind it." Click for the full column. (More Jeff Bezos stories.)
