After she was "Jenny from the block," Jennifer Lopez was, briefly, homeless, she revealed in a new interview last week. But after a few months of sleeping on her dance studio's couch, her fortunes changed. J. Lo isn't the only celeb whose path to stardom didn't always feature a roof overhead. The Huffington Post rounds up 18 more. Among them:
- Kelly Clarkson: Pre-American Idol, the singer reportedly found herself sleeping in her car and showering at her gym.
- Halle Berry: Her mom wouldn't give the 21-year-old money for food as she tried (temporarily) in vain to launch an acting career, so she was forced to use rent money to feed herself ... and stay in homeless shelters.
- Hilary Swank: She arrived in LA at age 15, accompanied by her mom and their car, which they lived out of, while using payphones to schedule auditions.
- Jim Carrey: When his dad lost his job, the teen was forced to live in a van with his family—and drop out of school at 15 in order to get a job.
- Sylvester Stallone: He lived in NYC's Port Authority bus station for three weeks after he got evicted. A $200 role in an adult film helped turn things around.
- Sam Worthington: Things weren't so hot for the Avatar star before he landed a role in that film; he was living in his car.
