Death Valley: People, Quit Frying Eggs on the Sidewalk

Rangers in Death Valley National Park say it's tough enough working in the hottest place on the planet without having to clean up the mess after people try to fry eggs on the pavement in parking lots and overlooks. The park—which marks the 100th anniversary of claiming the world heat record today—has issued a statement complaining about growing volumes of egg-related trash, NBC News reports.

"The Death Valley National Park maintenance crew has been busy cleaning up eggs cracked directly on the sidewalk, including egg cartons and shells strewn across the parking lot," the park posted on its Facebook page. "This is your national park, please put trash in the garbage or recycle bins provided." The park service says it's impossible to fry eggs on the pavement anyway—unless you use a skillet with a lid to keep the moisture in. (More Death Valley National Park stories.)
