The curtain gets pulled back a little more on Adam Lanza. The Hartford Courant spoke with sources involved in the Sandy Hook shooting investigation who say they believe they've found online postings made by Lanza over a roughly 11-month period beginning in April 2009. The Courant has declined to report the username that was used in the postings, which appeared on gun message boards and in gaming chat rooms. But that name led the paper to an identical username on Wikipedia, where it was attached to edits made to entries about mass shootings. Highlights from the Courant's report:

  • Lanza would have been 17 at the time the comments were posted, but the Courant notes the posts weren't very teenage-like: "Shunning normal abbreviations and quips in chat-room speak, the poster writes in unemotional academic tones," write Alaine Griffin and Josh Kovner.
  • The username is associated with edits made to 12 Wikipedia entries, often related to the specifics of the weapons used in various shootings. Among the entries that were touched: the teenage Kip Kinkel's 1998 Oregon school shooting, the 2006 shooting at Montreal's Dawson College, and a 1988 shooting at the company ESL Inc., in California.
  • On thehighroad.org, the user believed to be Lanza asked about whether a semiautomatic weapons ban might be expanded, writing, "I was just wondering if anyone knew because I have a fetish for .32 ACP" (ammunition).
  • Griffin and Kovner write that the user doesn't quite fit the narrative of the isolated Lanza. "The poster seems engaged with others online and is often helpful when comfortable with the topic."
