NSA contractor Booz Allen Hamilton hired Edward Snowden even though it had questions about his resume's accuracy, an insider tells Reuters. The details remain hazy, but the issues seem to relate to claims about his educational background. The future whistleblower, for instance, said he'd taken computer classes at Johns Hopkins University, but a rep for the school now says she can't find any evidence he was enrolled—though it's possible he took classes at a once-affiliated private institution, Advanced Career Technologies, formerly called Computer Career Institute at Johns Hopkins.

Snowden also said he'd attended Britain's University of Liverpool and "estimated" he'd get a master's degree in computer security this year. A university spokeswoman, however, says "he is not active in his studies and has not completed the program." A separate 2011 look at Snowden's history is also raising questions, USA Today reports. That year, government contractor US Investigative Services—which is now facing a fraud investigation—re-checked Snowden's background. Asked at a Senate hearing whether that probe was conducted in an "appropriate or thorough manner," a US personnel official replied, "We do believe that there may be some problems."
