Kid Rock is taking a stand against the ridiculously high cost of attending a big concert, by charging fans just $20 to attend the shows on his summer tour. "I'm lucky enough that I can afford to take a pay cut," he explained when making the announcement. Of course, it probably helps that he's also getting a cut of beer sales ... but at least those beers will only cost $4, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Journal calls such a low ticket cap "virtually unheard-of for a major act," and it seems to have paid off with spiking ticket sales for Kid Rock.
More good news for fans: They can skirt service fees and parking charges by getting their tickets at Walmart; souvenir shirts will be available for $20; and there will even be free coffee available. A caveat: There are 1,000 "platinum" tickets reserved per concert, and those cost the much-more-typical $60 to $350 apiece. The unusual deal came about after two years of discussions between Kid Rock and Live Nation; he's bypassing the mammoth upfront fee performers typically get, but he'll get a cut of food, drink, and parking sales. "I think it proves a point and moves things in the right direction," says the rocker. "Let's give the fans the best deal, then us rich m— can go fight about how to divvy up the money." The Journal has more details and a number of interesting figures, like the fact that it costs Kid Rock $125,000 a night to stage his show. (More Kid Rock stories.)
