Hannah Robertson shows an interactive game on nutrition called Today I Ate a Rainbow—created by her mother Kia.   (Today I Ate a Rainbow)

Nine-year-old Hannah Robertson knows it's important to eat her fruits and veggies (more so than most; this is her mom), but she thought Don Thompson ought to know, too. Thompson just so happens to be the CEO of McDonald's, and Robertson addressed him at the fast-food giant's annual shareholders' meeting this week. USA Today and NPR provide choice quotes:

  • "There are things in life that aren't fair—like when your pet dies. I don't think it's fair when big companies try to trick kids into eating food."
  • "It would be nice if you stopped trying to trick kids into wanting to eat your food all the time."
  • "Mr. Thompson, don't you want kids to be healthy so they can live a long and healthy life?"

His response? "We don't sell junk food." McDonald's menu items, like salads and the yogurt parfait, include fruits and veggies, Thompson said, and he noted that "my kids also eat McDonald's." He finished by telling Hannah, "I think it's great that you want to eat more fruits and veggies." (More McDonald's stories.)
