Watch a Solar Wave Burst Out of the Sun

NASA has released a seriously cool video of a massive solar wave—what the cool kids call a "coronal mass ejection"—that its Solar Dynamics Observatory captured over a 2.5-hour stretch yesterday. While these kinds of sun storms have been known to mess with satellites or even power grids here on Earth, this one thankfully was not pointed our way, Space.com reports; NASA says it took place on the sun's "limb." You can expect to see more of this kind of thing before 2013 is out; the sun is at the apex of its 11-year weather cycle. (More solar storm stories.)
