The Maple Leafs beat the Bruins in a shootout, 3-2, for their first consecutive victories in a month, but the outlook remained grim for general manager John Ferguson, Jr., reports the Toronto Globe and Mail. His team underperforming, Ferguson is likely to be replaced with former Toronto executive Cliff Fletcher. Also in shootouts:

  • Montreal goalie Cristobal Huet allowed an equalizer after boneheadedly abandoning the goal, then prevailed in the subsequent shootout against Atlanta, 3-2.
  • 22 players failed to capitalize in the Capitals-Oilers shootout before Matt Bradley won it for Washington, 5-4.
