Authorities have confirmed that a body pulled from the water near Brown University is that of Sunil Tripathi, a 22-year-old student who had been missing for about a month, reports the Providence Journal. The school's crew team found the body on Tuesday, and dental records provided the match. The cause of death hasn't been determined. Tripathi's story got an unfortunate turn in the national spotlight in the aftermath of the Boston bombing, when Internet sleuths speculated that he was one of the bombers. Reddit apologized afterward.
"As we carry indescribable grief, we also feel incredible gratitude," the Tripathi family said in a statement today, citing the compassion of people around the world. "This last month has changed our lives forever, and we hope it will change yours too. Take care of one another. Be gentle, be compassionate. Be open to letting someone in when it is you who is faltering. Lend your hand. We need it. The world needs it." (More Brown University stories.)
