Reese Witherspoon released a contrite statement after news broke of her arrest last night. Witherspoon, who reportedly said things like, "Do you know my name?" as her husband was being given a field sobriety test, says she is "deeply embarrassed about the things I said." "I clearly had one drink too many," she says. "It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior."
But a source who talks to E! has a slightly different story: Witherspoon privately claims that she was not trying to pull a "Don't you know who I am?" with the officer, the source says. Rather, when Witherspoon asked "Do you know my name?," she simply meant, "Don't you need to know my name?," according to the source. Shortly after the news of Friday's arrest broke, Witherspoon attended the premiere of her new movie, Mud, in New York last night, and did not take questions from reporters, the AP reports.
