If you're pulled over for texting while driving in California, don't try to use "But I was just looking at a map!" as an excuse. An appeals court in the state ruled late last month that using a mobile device to look at a map or directions is still not OK while driving, All Things D reports. Basically, using a wireless device "while holding it in [your] hand" and driving—no matter what you're doing—is a no-no, the court ruled. The case in question involved a man, Steven Spriggs, who was pulled over while using the GPS function on his phone, ABC News reports. (Meanwhile, a new survey finds that distracted driving laws aren't working.)
