Police have caught up with one of the two men they were hunting as part of the investigation into the killing of Colorado prisons chief Tom Clements. James Lohr was arrested in Colorado Springs earlier today, after a short foot chase that started when police tried to stop a car, reports the AP. Lohr is a known associate of the white supremacist gang 211 Crew and is believed to have been in recent contact with Evan Ebel, the main suspect in Clements' death. Though Lohr was wanted for questioning in the murder, he was arrested on a warrant unrelated to the Clements investigation.
It is still not known whether Ebel was acting alone or on orders from the 211 Crew, though police say the killing was not random, reports the New York Times. Ebel was released from prison four years early due to a clerical error after almost six years in solitary confinement. A prisons consultant who worked with Clements described Ebel as "a lone wolf" and said he did not believe a gang assassination of a public official was likely. "This has just never happened before in the history of corrections," he said. "What would be the value of the gang doing that, except to bring incredible heat both on and off the street?"
