A bill limiting ammunition magazines to 15 rounds has cleared Colorado's legislature, meaning all it needs to become law is Gov. John Hickenlooper's signature—which he has said he'll provide. The bill passed the state Senate on Monday and state House yesterday, 34-30; three Democrats joined the state's Republicans in voting against it. "I'm just numb at this moment, to see a bill I've worked hard to pass now enter its final stage on the way to becoming law," says its sponsor, adding, "These magazines should be used in our theaters of war, not our movie theaters."
The bill faced tough opposition from Republicans yesterday. "It does zero to enhance public safety," said the House minority leader. "We're saying Coloradans can't own these magazines, but they can still be manufactured here? We can sell these magazines to other states, but hold on, when it comes to owning one the answer is no. It's hypocritical. " The bill requires manufacturers to date its magazines; residents who already have such magazines will be allowed to keep them, but not transfer or sell them, the Denver Post notes.
