Vienna's Leopold museum has a hugely popular exhibit called "Nude Men from 1800 to Today," so obviously there was only one thing to do: Host a special tour of the exhibit in which spectators were invited to be naked. More than 60 museum-goers stripped down for the after-hours tour yesterday, though the guide was dressed as he explained the history of the 300 paintings, photographs, drawings, and sculptures.
The tour idea was sparked in November, when a man stripped down and sauntered through the exhibition until a security guard made him put his clothes back on. After that incident made the news, "We got requests from all over the world from people who were inspired by the exhibition ... who asked us, 'Can we visit the exhibition naked?'" says a museum spokesperson. Most of the tour takers were men, one of whom says he found it "interesting to stroll through a museum naked. I've always wanted to do that." (More museum stories.)
