NBC's David Gregory won't be going to jail for using a visual aid that just happened to be a high-capacity ammunition magazine. DC's attorney general exercised "prosecutorial discretion" and said the host of Meet the Press will not be charged for waving the 30-round magazine during an interview with NRA chief Wayne LaPierre, reports the Washington Post. It's illegal to have one good for more than 10 rounds in DC.
Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan reminded Gregory and the network “of the gravity of the illegal conduct," especially "in a city and a nation that have been plagued by carnage from gun violence.” But, ultimately, he let Gregory skate because the intent "was to promote the First Amendment purpose of informing an ongoing public debate about firearms policy." It was, he added, a "very close decision," reports AP. (More David Gregory stories.)
