A 59-year-old California man drowned after being swept out to sea while trying to save his dog, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Charles Quaid was walking on the beach at Point Reyes peninsula with his wife and retriever when a rogue wave pulled the dog into the water. The Chronicle says Quaid got swept away when he and his wife went in to save the animal. Both his wife and the dog made it back to shore safely. In late November, three members of a family drowned in California while trying to save their dog. In that case, too, the dog made it back to shore on its own. (More dogs stories.)
