Apple TV Rumors Heat Up

An Apple TV set is getting closer to reality, reports the Wall Street Journal. Execs at some of Apple's suppliers say the company is in the early stages of testing prototypes for hi-res, big-screen TVs. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently said the concept of an Apple television is no longer just a "hobby," and the company has already made a foray into the living room with its Apple TV set-top box, which streams Internet content.

Adding fuel to the speculation is the fact that in July, Terry Gou, chairman of Apple supplier Foxconn, took a 37% stake Japanese liquid-crystal-display factory that could be used to create LCD screens for TVs 60 inches or larger. Another site, BGR, picks up on reports that Apple TV is going to have "game-changing" 3D capabilities, but Gizmodo isn't buying it. (More Apple stories.)
