Hillary for mayor? Finally, some speculation on Clinton's future that doesn't focus on the 2016 presidential race. Michael Bloomberg called the secretary of state a few months ago urging her to enter next year's New York City mayoral race and potentially take his place after he leaves office at the end of 2013, three sources confirm to the New York Times. But the call says more about Bloomberg than it does about Clinton, since the sources say she is completely uninterested in running.

Bloomberg's call shows just how concerned he is about his successor, the Times notes; it also highlights his desire to become a political "kingmaker" when he leaves office. Most have assumed he would endorse Christine Quinn, the City Council speaker, who helped him nab a third term by supporting a change to term limit laws; this call indicates that may not be such a certainty. "Really?" said Quinn when informed of the call this week. "I don't know anything about that." (More Hillary Clinton stories.)
