Michael Vick was transferred yesterday from a Virginia jail to the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., a move that could spring him 12 months early. The disgraced QB, serving a 23-month sentence for his involvement in dogfighting, hopes to enroll in a drug rehab program that could cut his sentence in half, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

It wasn't immediately clear if Vick has already applied for the program, but his lawyer said he intends to. If Vick does complete the program he could, in theory, return to pro football as early as 2009. He's now incarcerated in a minimum-security work camp next to the more secure prisons at the Leavenworth facility. (More Michael Vick stories.)
