Walmart's Black Friday sale began on Thursday ... as did the Black Friday protests planned by workers around the country. Workers abandoned their posts last night in Dallas, Miami, and Kenosha, Wisc., according to employee group OUR Walmart, and Twitter posts indicate that protests hit other stores as well, including one in Wichita. But today's the big day, though just how big the protests will be remains to be seen, reports the Christian Science Monitor.
According to OUR Walmart's website, the main attraction will be rallies in a handful of cities. Last night's Miami rally saw 30 workers from three area stores join forces with 100-or-so supporters, reports the Nation. Rallies are set for Chicago; Milwaukee; Washington, DC; Dallas; Los Angeles; Sacramento; San Francisco; and Seattle today. Observes the Monitor, "Given its nearly 4,000 stores, these job actions are unlikely to stop–or even slow–Walmart's Black Friday push. The strikers appear to be aiming for visibility rather than confrontation." (More Walmart stories.)
