Richard Cohen does not disagree with the Washington Post’s endorsement of President Obama, he writes in that paper—but when he votes for Obama next week, it will be “with regret.” Because Cohen once mistook Obama for an RFK-like figure, only to be proved very wrong. Robert F. Kennedy cared passionately about the Vietnam war, about poverty, but Obama “seems not to care” about anything but “his own political survival,” Cohen writes.
During his 2008 campaign, Obama “promised to slow the rise of the oceans and begin to heal the planet,” but after getting elected, he abandoned climate change—and any other cause he might once have appeared to embrace. He’s never even argued for ObamaCare “with any fervor,” Cohen writes. “Young black men fill the jails and the morgues, yet Obama says nothing. Bobby Kennedy showed his anger, his impatience, his stunned incredulity at the state of black America. Obama shows nothing.” Click for Cohen’s full column. (More President Obama stories.)
