Two new polls out of New Hampshire show GOP surges 4 days ahead of the primary—but in opposite directions. In Suffolk University figures, Mitt Romney leads John McCain by four points, an eight-point shift toward Romney in 2 days’ time, the Boston Herald reports. But American Research Group puts McCain ahead by 10 points, up from a dead heat less than one week ago.
The Suffolk director was impressed with Romney's surge, saying, "The results may tell people Romney is competitive and is for real.” He added that Romney had made particular inroads in McCain’s advantage among older voters. ARG, which showed Hillary Clinton with a nine-point lead going into Iowa, showed McCain with a 49%-19% lead over Romney with independent voters, who can participate in either primary.
