Pakistani officials are renaming an all-female college in Swat in honor of Malala Yousufzai, the teen activist hospitalized by a Taliban attack. As to the militant group, "we just want to tell them we will not be deterred by their actions," says a local official. "We always want to send a message across the world, that here we want to develop the female gender and we also want females to come forward in society."
For fear of another attack, students at the institution, which provides high school and college education to some 2,000 young women, are concerned about being on camera or even attending school, CNN reports. But, inspired by Malala, they're going anyway. "She sacrificed her life for us, for education, that girls should take education for their bright future," says one student, 17. Meanwhile, Malala's parents have arrived in Britain to see their daughter. "With the nation's prayers she survived the attack and she will surely recover and her health will progress," says her father. She asked him to bring her school books, CNN notes in a separate story.
